Frankie's gets a pizza St George's Day celebrations

Wirral’s newest restaurant has designed a special signature pizza to celebrate St George’s Day.

Marco Pierre White Frankie’s New York Italian, a collaboration between celebrity chef Marco Pierre White and jockey Frankie Dettori, opens in Hoylake on 23 April, coinciding with the day England celebrates its patron saint.

Restaurant chefs have created a house speciality pizza, which blends the flag of St George with its Italian-American inspired menu, to mark the special day.  The pizza will combine the finest roasted vine tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and olive oil, all set on a thin, crispy base.

The 155-seater Frankie’s New York Italian will specialise in pastas, steaks, seafood, burgers and pizzas, while its stylish bar area offers a full range of cocktails, wines and draught beers.

The venue is part of the £5m redevelopment of the former Kings Gap Court Hotel by Sanguine Hospitality Ltd, which also includes a new Holiday Inn Express hotel.

Head chef, Shane Anthony, said: “When we realised work on the restaurant would be completed this month, we just knew we had to open on St George’s Day.  Hoylake is a quintessential English village and this is the first Frankie’s outside London, so it made perfect sense.

“We wanted to do something special to mark the occasion and decided to fuse an iconic Italian dish, the pizza, with a symbol of English strength, the cross of St George. Our new guests can judge for themselves whether our efforts have been a success.”

The St. George’s Day pizza will be available all week from 23 April and costs £7.50.
